Homework Center

Our Homework Centre provides one-on-one tuition for Primary school children for just $15 per term (based on one session per week and not including Milligan membership). The centre is coordinated by a qualified teacher and each child is matched with a volunteer tutor. Sessions run for 45 minutes on a Tuesday and/or Thursday after school.

The Milligan Homework Centre was established in 1997 because of a perceived need.  All the staff at Milligan work closely with children and their parents, and they know how important it is for primary school children to develop good study habits, and for parents to gain enough confidence that they can make a difference.  This can help a child succeed at school, which in turn is a benefit, not only to the child, but also to the whole community.

Milligan is extremely proud of its Homework Centre.  We believe it is an unusual and an imaginative initiative, to try and make a difference to the lives of some children in our community.

The Centre is staffed by a very enthusiastic team of volunteers, including some young people who are motivated to help other children.  We believe that our service should be run efficiently and effectively, and so we employ one paid co-ordinator, who is a trained teacher, who supports and trains the tutors and liaises with the parents, children and their teachers in the schools.
