Bunbury Teen and Young Mums Group caters for young women 14-22, who are pregnant or parenting. They meet weekly at Milligan, and operate from a group based peer support framework. The program employs a Coordinator, two Peer Support Workers and creche workers:
- Annette Owen - Coordinator, social worker and mother of three.
- Meg Ellis - a young mum and past participant of the program; Meg is now employed in a peer Support Worker role.
- Gemma Coote - has a background in human servises and is a peer support worker
- Jolene Kavanaugh - is a qualified child care worker and coordinates the creche and creche workers
The groups focus on parenting (child development, discipline, protective behaviours); healthy relationships (domestic violence, support, communication); self care (maternal health, depression, support); and pathways to employment, education and training.
Participants are involved in interactive sessions with their babies, group sessions and guest presentations. The group is involved in peer advocacy activities which support themselves and others in the community.
The group is funded by FaHCSIA, as part of the Families and Early Childhood Section.
